Do you google your name? Want to know if people are talking about you or talking about your books? Want to know an easier, automatic way to find out this informaton?

How To Set Up Google Alerts

You can set up actual alerts that will send you email when Google finds anything with whatever term you define. You can set up an alert for:

  • your name
  • your pen name
  • the title of your book
  • the name of your blog
  • subjects you are researching for your book
  • whatever search term you want


To be notified automatically, go to Google Alerts Google Alert Sign Up

  • 1. In the search term box, type in whatever term you’re interested in tracking.
  • 2. In the drop down field next to Type, choose from searching news, blogs, the web, a comprehensive search, video, or Google groups.
  • 3. In the How often field choose between receiving emails once a day, as it happens, or weekly
  • 4. Fill in the email field for the email address where you’d like to receive the alerts
  • 5. click create alert
  • 6. A confirmation email will be sent to your email address. You’ll need to click on the link in the email to confirm that you want the alert.
  • Now you’ll start receiving the emails with whatever Google finds with your search term. Create separate alerts for whatever terms you like. Now you have an automatic, easy way to keep tabs on the things you want to track.

      Besides just obsessively checking to see who is talking about you Though that’s fun…it’s a good tool to use for research too.

      You also could put in an alert for a publisher you’re targeting, an agent you’re interested in, a specific editor. Lots of options.
