Set Up Akismet on Your Wordpress Blog
Okay, we set up your blog using Fantastico. This is what your blog looks like now.

Now we want to set up Akismet to protect your blog from spam. Akismet is a plugin, that comes with your Wordpress install. It will greatly reduce spam comments and trackbacks on your blog if you activate it and set it up correctly.
Log into your Wordpress admin panel
www.yourdomain.com/wp-admin

At the top of the admin panel, click on plugins.

On the Plugin Management Screen, you’ll see Akismet. Click on the button that says activate.

You’ll see this screen that says the plugin was activated, but you need an API key. Click on the link by the red arrow.

From this screen you can click on the link that says GET YOUR KEY.

You’ll see this screen at Wordpress.com. Now, don’t get confused. We aren’t setting up a blog on Wordpress.com, we’re just getting an API key from them. Follow the instructions on the page, and they’ll email you your API key. Enter it in the box on your Wordpress Blog indicated above.
Okay, you’re now protected from Spam. Well, more protected than you would be without Akismet installed.

I guess I should have waited until you posted this. I had to figure out Akismet on my own. *g*
This is a *must* as far as plug-ins go…this has already caught an amazing amount of spam on my blog since I began on WP in mid-January. I can’t imagine life without it!
